This World is not My Home

This world is not my home I'm just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore
Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Just over in Gloryland
We'll live eternally
The saints on every hand are shouting victory

Their songs of sweetest praise
Drift back from Heaven's shore
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do

The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

I learned this song when I was in elementary or middle school. I always liked it but haven’t sung or heard it in quite some time. However, these lyrics have been going through my mind lately. The lyrics that have been especially ringing through my brain are “This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through” and “I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.” With how crazy, depressing, frustrating and divisive this world is now more than ever, I take great comfort in knowing that because of my faith in Christ, no matter what happens here, this is only temporary. I have a much better Home awaiting for me. Whether He comes to call His children out of here soon or it is years from now, this is all just temporary. This world is not my permanent home. Heaven is my real home. And it’s perfect. No more sin. No more tears, hate, sickness, rumors, etc. I am thankful that there is more than this life here on earth. Thankful that those of us who are Christ followers know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we have something so much better waiting. This world is not our home. We are just passing through. Heaven is our destination. Hallelujah!
